- Frequently Asked Questions -

Can I Use My Own Skis or Boards?

Absolutely, that is exactly what we love to do for folks.  There are often a lot of memories and emotions (hopefully positive!!) attached with expensive ski gear.  It's a great way to preserve that and give them a second life.  Check out the Custom Build page

Do I Have to Have My Own Skis or Boards?

Nope.  We have a large stock or skis and boards in a variety of styles, colors, brands, and eras.  We may even have YOUR old gear.  You can tell us what your looking for and we will send you images of our current options, or just have our design team pull something together for you.

Are They Comfortable?

Yes...We think so!  Chairs and benches have been designed to not only be an interesting conversation piece, but functional and comfortable as well.  What is the point of an uncomfortable chair?  Our chairs and benches have contoured seats and backs, and we have spent time getting the proportions and sizing dialed in to produce an exceedingly comfortable and professionally built product.  Don't take our word for it though, find out  for yourself! Stop by the shop, visit us at a show, or order one up and take advantage of the comfort guarantee.  You will be amazed!

Will the Skis Poke My Head?

No. We build our standard chair size to accomidate someone up to 6'3" or so, while keeping a normal Adirondack chair proportion.  If you are taller, we can easily lengthen the back for you, otherwise do not expect to hurt yourself while sitting in a chair!

Do You Do Any Custom Work?

We love custom work...give us a challenge and we'll give you a quote.  If you can dream it up we can build it for you, and we are happy to customize any of our designs based on your personal preferences. Contact us with your ideas...

Will you Ship Your Products?

We will ship most everything we make nation-wide partially assembled, and can also ship fully assembled product via freight shipping; but it is not cheap nor is it recommended.  Chairs have a 4-part assembly that is pretty easy….Please contact us for international shipping rates

Are Your Products Suitable for Outside Use?

Perfect for outdoor use with cedar wood and stainless steel hardware.  Very weather resistant and can be left out all year round to enjoy those sunny winter days after a few nice runs.  Products can also be finished to match or add to your inside décor.

Do I Need to Finish your Furniture?  What Should I use?

Cedar needs no finish for outdoor use and will weather to a soft silver-gray patina if left untreated.  More about Cedar.  If you cover your chairs or store them out of the weather and sun, they will last an incredibly long time left untreated.  Alternatively, you can finish any of our products (our we can do it for you if you prefer) for increased protection and durability.  Finish Options here...

Why Should We Have GMSF Build us Anything?

We have spent considerable time perfecting our designs to make an exceptionally comfortable and well-built product with some of the best materials available.  Each piece is hand-built, and each presents a unique challenge due to the fact that skis taper in two directions.  Thoughtful consideration, with a critical and artistic eye, is given to each ski combination; matching and fading colors into each other, while blending brands and eras.  Plus you'll be supporting a sustainable, local, and small Vermont business, and we thank you.  Find out more about us.

My husband (or wife) has been wanting to do this.  He never will.  Can you help him?

We recommend the chair kit for some DIY motivation.  It will get the ball rolling, supply all the materials, give tips, instruction, and encouragement, and even help clean out the garage.  Alternatively, if you've seen this person's handy-work and you're still doubltful, see question above, or perhaps a gift certificate might be a good choice.

How Long Have you Been Doing This?
I've been building things all my life and have worked as a carpenter professionally since 1997 on and off, and started building ski chairs in 2003 in WA.  Our first ski furniture storefront was opened in Essex in March of 2007, and we've been in our current Route 100 location in Waterbury Center since July 2008.

Where Do you Get Your Skis and Boards?

We advertise locally for them and end up collecting and buying them from individuals, businesses, resorts, ski schools, and the local recycle centers.  There is a lot of old and discarded gear here in Vermont alone as technology rapidly changes, the trick is finding it.  Recycle your gear.
